The County Government of Nairobi has announced a plan to map out all liquor stores in the 17 sub-counties.

In a statement, the Chief Officer, of Urban Development and Planning Patrick Analo said the exercise will run from Monday, August 21, 2023, to September 21, 2023.

"Nairobi City County Government will from the '21st August 2023 to 21st September 2023' conduct an exercise to map out all Liquor premises across all the 17 Sub-counties within Nairobi County," Analo stated.

"The liquor licensing function was devolved to the County Governments after the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010. Nairobi City County Government regulates and controls the sale, consumption. manufacture, distribution and advertisement of alcoholic drinks as provided for under the Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Act, 2014."

The exercise will target retailers of alcoholic drinks( wines & spirits shops), wholesalers, distributors, bars and restaurants, nightclubs, importers, manufacturers, members clubs and hotels.

According to Analo, the exercise will ensure all liquor businesses are identified and captured in a database for revenue enhancement, compliance with set standards, future county planning and elimination of illicit and counterfeit alcohol.

"All business owners are urged to corporate with the data collectors and report any concern," he said.
