Ford Kenya has now settled on a long-serving aide to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula as its candidate for the Bungoma county senatorial by-election. The party said Wafula Wakoli who has been a personal aide to the National Assembly speaker will fly the party’s flagbearer in the by-election. The party’s Bungoma county chairperson Catherine Wambilianga rubbished calls from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) supporters that Ford Kenya shelves its plans to field a candidate and instead back its (UDA) candidate The seat became vacant following Wetang’ula’s resignation as Bungoma senator to run for the National Assembly speaker’s seat. In the looming by-election, UDA is fronting former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga for the senator’s seat after he lost to Jack Wamboka of DAP-K in the concluded elections.

Wambilianga maintained that the senator’s seat belongs to Ford Kenya and as such, the party would defend it in the by-election. ‘’We had only one Ford Kenya senator in the Senate so those thinking we are going to support them should forget it,’’ said Wambilianga who is the Bungoma Woman Representative. She said Wakoli had stood with the party through thick and thin, promising that time had reached to reward him.
