Senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka has ditched the ruling Jubilee Party for the Wetangula-led Ford-Kenya party. Lusaka, who is gunning for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat, is viewed to have also joined Kenya Kwanza Alliance that encompasses Wetangula's party, Mudavadi's Amani National Congress Party and Ruto's United Democratic Alliance party.

The former county head will now seek to reclaim his seat from the incumbent Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati. Wangamati, who dethroned Lusaka in 2017 on a Ford-Kenya ticket, has since ditched the outfit for the nascent DAP-K party.

The DAP-K party, which majorly constitutes of Ford-Kenya and ANC party rebels, is currently on a mission to fashion itself as the party of choice in the Western region. The Wafula Wamunyinyi-led party has been traversing the vote-rich region drumming up support for Azimio La Umoja's candidate Raila Odinga.
