PNU in coast for popularization tour
Laikipia Governor Nderitu Mureithi has lashed out at party-hoppers who he said had reduced political parties to vehicles of convenience to propel leaders to power.
He lamented that most politicians treat political parties as platforms to ascend into elective positions during electioneering period only to defect later, while either seeking re-election or political survival.
Political parties, he said, are the institutions that carry policy ideas from one generation to another and through which countries prosper.
“Some fellows, due to poor knowledge, believe political parties are vehicles of convenience; they are not,” said Mureithi when addressing PNU grassroot leaders in Mtwapa, Kilifi County.
He said he is on a countrywide tour re-invigorating the Party of National Unity (PNU), which he said is the vehicle will make Kenya a middle-income country by 2030.
Mureithi, who won the Governor position as an independent candidate, said he will defend the seat on a PNU ticket.
It is PNU that gave birth to the Vision 2030, Kenya’s economic blueprint that seeks to transform the country into a newly industrialised, middle-income country providing quality of life to all its citizens by 2030 in a clean and secure environment.
Being the country’s development programme from 2008 to 2030, it was launched on June 10, 2008 by former President Mwai Kibaki. Mureithi said the future of both PNU and the country lies in Vision 2030.
He said building a strong party is the first step towards turning a country into an economic behemoth.
