Raila drums up support for Azimio La Umoja in Nyandarua
ODM leader Raila Odinga took his Azimio La Umoja campaign to Nyandarua County yesterday, where he promised to ensure victims of the 2007/8 post-election violence are resettled back on their land.
Raila said there are still many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nyandarua and Mai Mahiu in Nakuru County and promised to ensure they are resettled if he becomes president.
Raila accused Deputy President (DP) William Ruto of propagating hate and ethnic discrimination in his rallies, citing last month’s utterances by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi calling on the DP’s supporters to uproot “madoadoa” from their midst.
“Azimio is meant to unite Kenyans and end all forms of discrimination,” Raila said during a consultative meeting with residents of Nyandarua held at the Ol Kalou Arboretum.
He promised to subsidise the prices of farm inputs, so that farmers in the country can benefit from their sweat.
He said subsidies in agriculture were practiced all over the world as a means of ensuring food security. Create jobs On employment, the ODM leader said the civil service can only accommodate 700,000 people at any one time against one million youths who join the job market from education institutions in the country each year.
“I will ensure we grow the manufacturing sector to create jobs in the country,” he said and called for fast-tracking of building of cold storage in Nyandarua as a first step to value addition to agricultural produce in the county. He further promised to cushion families that have no source of income by giving them Sh6,000 per month.
Raila also said widows and single parents will benefit from the government social protection fund. Raila said in his Babacare health insurance, Kenyans will get treatment with or without money.
The ODM leader was accompanied by a host of leaders who included Governors Ali Hassan Joho, Lee Kinyanjui and the host Francis Kimemia. MPs Junet Mohamend, Jeremiah Kioni, Amos Kimunya, Babu Owino, Sabina Chege and Kanini Kega. Maina Kamanda and Water CS Sicily Kariuki were also present.
