National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has joined Kenya Kwanza Alliance to call for the reduction of food prices in the country.

Speaking in Meru, the Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate blamed the government for overtaxing agricultural products, a move he said has led to skyrocketing food prices in Kenya.

Addressing locals at Makutano in Imenti North where he urged them to support his presidential bid, Muturi blamed the government on current high living standards terming it as a wanting situation.

"The government should not tax everything, especially foodstuff and other related imports," Muturi said.

He was echoing the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders; Deputy President William Ruto (UDA), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) who recently blamed the government for the high cost of living.

"If the government continues to harbour these unscrupulous traders, the country will still continue to sink because they will continue to hold the country at ransom and Kenyans will continue to suffer if these cartels are not wiped out," he added

Kenya Kwanza has also been on the frontline on calling for lowering of food prices blaming handshake for being a license to burdening Kenyans with punitive food prices, high public debts, and taxations.

On their statement read by Mudavadi last week, the team said the country's debt has doubled and risen from Ksh4.5 trillion to Ksh11.7 trillion.
