Trans Nzoia: MCAs plan to impeach Speaker over gross misconduct
Leadership wrangles in Ford Kenya party took a new twist on Sunday when some ward representatives laid plans to impeach Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Werunga for allegedly preventing them from replacing minority leader Emmanuel Waswa.
The Speaker, citing the Simba party's dispute before the High Court which gave conservatory orders stopping the coup, said the party secretary General Simiyu Eseli's letter opposing changes at the assembly was valid.
The Ward representatives led by nominated MCA Philp Nyongesa said they had lost trust in the speaker's leadership and said his removal was inevitable.
"We are left wondering why the speaker rejected the letter signed by our party leader Moses Wetangula asking him to fast track changes in the party leadership. The letter with a genuine logo and zeal should not have been rejected," he said.
"It is absolutely uncalled for to assume that we are having a leadership vacuum in Ford Kenya. The Speaker clearly knows we have conservatory orders stopping those who had illegally staged a coup from doing anything," he added.
Motosiet Ward representative Bernard Muganda Aliang'ana who had been nominated by the party leader Moses Wetangula's led faction accused the Speaker of frustrating the MCAs quest to remove Waswa by deliberately stopping them from accessing the Hansard report on the ruling.
He said Ford Kenya MCAs had already received backing from the majority Jubilee Party MCAs who are unhappy with the way the speaker was misusing his office in making unpopular decisions.
The Speaker, however, maintained his innocence in the matter and said his ruling was informed by the High court ruling in the conservatory orders which stopped Secretary general Simiyu Eseli and his Kanduyi counterpart Wafula Wamunyinyi from effecting the take over.
