Uhuru allies say they want him to continue being Jubilee party leader even after retirement
Jubilee MPs allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta have revealed that they want the Head of State to remain at the helm of Jubilee Party's leadership even after his retirement.
While speaking to a local daily, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu opined that Uhuru's involvement in the running of the party will help them have a smooth transition and ensure that the ruling party secures tangible stakes in the next government.
"We expect that President Uhuru Kenyatta will continue being the Jubilee Party leader post 2022, and well into the next term, mainly to ensure the party has settled and taken its place in the next administration," Wambugu said.
Wambugu's remarks come hot on the heels of a presser addressed by the party leadership, announcing the upcoming Jubilee National Delegates Conference.
It is believed that during the delegates meeting, Deputy President William Ruto will be dethroned as the party's deputy party leader.
The DP is set to be whipped from the ruling party due to his association with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a political outfit that he has indicated that he will use to run for presidency in 2022.
