Sixteen suspects were yesterday arraigned over the attack of a female diplomat last Friday.

The suspects, including boba boda riders and matatu touts were charged with robbery with violence and sexual harassment against the victim.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe directed that the suspects be detained at the Gigiri Police Station until today, when he will determine whether to allow police to interrogate them for another 20 days.

“Because the prosecution and the suspects have differed on the days for detention, I need more time in order to make a comprehensive decision,” Shikwe ruled.

The suspects who denied the charges were arrested following a viral video showing the complainant being attacked last Friday within  abusy road in Nairobi City.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations through Inspector of Police Yvonne Mwanzia is seeking 20 more days to enable them complete investigations into the matter.

Mwanzia told the court that the victim, who is a Zimbabwean diplomat, reported the incident at the Parklands Police Station.

Among the suspects were two matatu drivers ,  four  conductors and a fruit vendor who told the court that they were were arrested on mistaken identity.
