Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata (right) has called on security agents to be vigilant following increased political campaigns ahead of the August 9 polls.

Speaking in Minjilla town in Tana River county yesterday during a security meeting, the regional boss said more security agents would be deployed during the election period.

“It is during this period that conflict-related issues crop up, such as pastoralist-farmer rows, hate speech and intercommunity conflicts,” he said.

He added that the national government is keen to ensure that calm prevails throughout the electioneering period.

Elungata stated that all eyes were on security agencies, especially in Tana River County which, he said, has frequent intercommunity conflicts during election periods.

He assured the public that the government had deployed adequate security personnel ahead of the polls.
