Stray Lions and Kanbis Sports Clubs renew their rivalry.

Stray Lions and Kanbis Sports Clubs renew their rivalry Sunday at Peponi School as the Nairobi Invitational Cricket League 50-over Championship heats up.

The duel pitting Group B heavyweights of the Super Division will certainly be the highlight in a competition that has now separated serious contenders and trialists thus far.

The pair has had their intense rivalry in the back burner in the recent past due to the long dominance by Kanbis plus the third force of ever-present Swamibapa.

However the Lions look rejuvenated after an out of sorts 2018-19 season and particularly in the T20 run.

They top Group B with 12 points off three matches while Kanbis have 10 points off the same number of games which therefore makes for a good battle ahead.

Lions have come good particularly under the able hands of legendary Maurice Odumbe in all-round position at the ripe age of 50 years.

Kanbis seem very capable on paper with the might of the batting trident of Rakep Patel, Dhiren Gondaria and Nelson Odhiambo.

Captain Patel told People Sports that the match was critical in defining their fight for honours. “It will be nice to go out and win but we all know Lions are a difficult side. We hope for a good match that will entertain our fans.”

Meanwhile, with red-hot Swami getting a bye, the Group A table still rightly belongs to them with the playoffs quickly approaching.

On 16 points at the moment off four games, they double their immediate followers Sir Ali Muslim Club on gap.
