The County government of Trans Nzoia has assured residents of its total commitments towards ensuring that they are protected from the fears associated with the dreaded coronavirus pandemic which continues to claim many lives.

In a statement read by the county executive member of Health Clare Wanyama, the county administration said consultations with the state department of health ( MOH) to make the Trans Nzoia county teaching and referral hospital a fully-fledged coronavirus isolation centre for treatment and management of the disease were at an advanced stage.

''We have held consultative talks with the state department of health with the view of making the county teaching and referral hospital a full-fledged isolation centre. We are already 85 per cent set to go," she said while speaking to the People Daily in Kitale.

''The facility boasts of more than 100 modern beds fitted with ICU in addition to the 32 other beds at the Mount Elgon isolation hospital and we are in talks with the State Department of Health to convert our almost complete Trans Nzoia County Teaching and Referral Hospital into an Isolation and treatment facility for Covid-19 with a capacity of up to 100 beds," she said.

She said the county administration had continued carrying out surveillance at the county border points to ensure the safety of all inbound travellers and residents are safe.

Mount Elgon hospital isolation unit already has a 32-bed capacity which will go along way in the fight against coronavirus.
