Ethiopia’s number of COVID-19 cases rise to 12

ADDIS ABABA,

The Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI) on Tuesday announced it has confirmed one more case of COVID-19 bringing the total numbers of cases in the east African country to 12.

Ethiopia's first confirmed case of COVID-19 was on March 13, and since then the confirmed cases of the virus has steadily grown in the country.

The new COVID-19 case is of a 34-year-old Ethiopian national who arrived from Dubai on March 19.

"The individual entered into a medical facility on March 22 after falling ill."

"The medical facility notified about the condition of 34-year-old Ethiopian to the EPHI which tested him and confirmed he has COVID-19."

"15 other people who had contacts with the individual are currently under close medical supervision," said the statement from EPHI.

On Monday, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced a series of measures as part of prevention and containment actions against the spread of COVID-19 in Ethiopia.

These include the closing of all of Ethiopia's land borders to the movement of people, with the exception of incoming essential goods to the east African country.

Ahmed also announced Ethiopia has allocated some 156 million U.S. dollars to combat the spread of COVID-19 virus. (Xinhua)Attachments area
