Farm guards arrested for allegedly killing a teenager in Trans Nzoia

Police in Kitale have arrested two security guards in connection to the brutal killing of a 17-year-old girl near a maize farm.

According to the Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga Ali, the form three girl was shot while gathering firewood in Karunga farm.

The suspects are believed to have shot the girl with arrows in the neck, and put her body inside a polythene bag and dumped it into a river.

"A report about the murder of a theft suspect was made at Musengi patrol base after being killed by security guards on the 4th of September 2020(sic)," said the police boss

Gitonga said 46-year-old Michael Kipragut and Roy Kibet Chelangaa, 42 were subsequently arrested on suspicion of the murder of the juvenile and were helping police in investigations. 

He said the body of the slain teenager with deep arrow injuries had been taken to Kiminini Cottage Hospital Mortuary. 

Area residents led by Athman Wafula Mutacho condemned the killing of the teenager and asked the government to bring to end cases of killings of those going to fetch firewood in the forest.

"It is very unfortunate to have such a small girl being killed especially by security guards. This should not have been allowed to continue," he said.
