There was drama at Kang’eng’a village of Gatundu South, Kiambu county yesterday after a man buried his wife at night following a dispute between him and the family of his wife.

Francis Nduachi, a retired teacher is said to have secretly buried Margaret Wanjiru Ndung’u; his 55-year-old wife on Wednesday night without involving his in-laws who hail from Kigumo in Murang’a County.

The two have been married for five years. The two families have been embroiled in a tussle on the deceased’s final resting place.

Prior to her death that occurred three weeks ago, Wanjiru is reported to have instructed that she be buried at her parents’ home in Murang’a, a directive that Nduachi defied when he hastily moved to bury her at his home in Gatundu South.

Her mother Josephine Wanjiku, said that Wanjiru and Nduachi have been having domestic feuds and at some point, he neglected her after she became sick.

“We would not like to go contrary to her wish,” Wanjiku said.

Yesterday morning, it was confusion as mourners who had been informed that the burial would be held, arrived only to find that the body had been secretly buried even without the involvement of the deceased’s close friends and relatives.

“Whether the family has a tussle over where to bury the deceased is not a bid deal. What is giving us a headache is why the ritual was conducted at night,” a mourner said.

Wanjiru died at Kenyatta National Hospital and her body had been detained at Kenyatta University Mortuary but her husband obtained a court order enabling him to transfer the body to Gatundu.
