Isahakia appeal to State for resettlement
Members of the Isahakia community have accused some senior officials from the Ministry of Lands of frustrating their resettlement efforts.
The community from Naivasha has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and end their years of suffering as they sought elusive justice.
While serving his first term, Uhuru promised the community, which acted, as porters for Lord Delamere in the 18th Century that they would be resettled but this has never been implemented.
Community leader Ahmed Ali Faarah noted that for years officers from the Ministry of Land had taken them in circles.
An emotional Ali said tens of community members were dying every year as they waited to be resettled by the State.
Ali added the community agreed to hand over sections of the land to the prisons and Dairy Training Institute (DTI) with the promise they would be resettled on the remaining parcels.
“Our forefathers arrived in the country back in 1867 and to date we have never been resettled as influential people continue to grab our land,” he said.
One of the women leaders, Sarah Ishmael narrated how the President directed the late PS for Land Mariam El-Maawy to facilitate their resettlement.
She noted this had not been fulfilled leading to their suffering as tens of acres which they received from the colonial government continued to be grabbed.
