As the Kiambaa parliamentary by-election campaign enters the homestretch, Jubilee and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) political parties have pitched camp in the area with each leaving nothing to chance.

The mini-poll slated for mid next month has seen either party luminaries lock horns as they woo the more than 95,000 voters ahead of the exercise.

Women caucus

Over the weekend was a beehive of activities as both parties crisscrossed the vast constituency in a bid to seek support from voters.

The exercise has narrowed down to a two-horse race pitting Jubilee’s Kariri Njama and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Njuguna Wanjiku.

A lobby group namely Jubilee Women Caucus led by CAS Rachel Shebesh stormed the area where they drummed up support for the party candidate for the seat Kariri Njama.

The caucus challenged those castigating the party to resign and seek fresh mandate using the UDA instead of discrediting it  the ruling outfit while they are still members.

Flanked by her Gender counterparty Beatrice Elachi, Gender and Equality commisioner Priscillah Nyokabi, Gatundu North MP Wanjiku Kibe and Kiambu Deputy Governor Joyce Ngugi, Shebesh said it was illogical and ironical for MPs to discredit the party they belong to.

Elachi said: “I dare them to resign altogether instead of being double edged. They are telling people not to vote for the Jubilee candidate and yet they are members of the party,” she said.

Shebesh said:” We are not allowed to engage in politics but I have been mandated by the appointing authority to come here and drum up support for our candidate.

Our candidate will carry the day because of the support he has gotten from women voters who are reliable.”

Also present during the event was Machakos Senator Kavindu Muthama of Wiper Party who said her presence was an indication President Uhuru Kenyatta had united the country.

“My party leader Kalonzo Musyoka dispatched us here to campaigns for the Jubilee candidate because he is working closely with him.

I urge you people of Kiambaa to elect Njama as a show of appreciation on matters development,” she said.
