The Laikipia County government offices in Nyahururu town have been closed and employees told to keep off for the next 14 days after five staff members tested positive for Covid-19.

The County has recorded 160 positive cases since the beginning of the month with Nyahururu sub-county, where the offices are located being the hardest hit.

The Sub County administrator, Anthony Waruru in a notice posted at the entrance to the offices said the place will remain closed until July 30, 2021.

“Deliver any correspondence to the security offices at the gate and it will be acted on,” Waruru advised members of public.

The sub county administrator was enforcing a directive by the County Secretary Karanja Njora who on Friday directed that the offices that host one of the governor’s offices, the County Public Service Board (CPSB) among other county departments and Igwamiti ward MCA’s office be closed for 14 days to curb the spread of the virus among staff members.

“Some of our members of staff at the Nyahururu Sub-county offices have tested positive for Covid-19.It has been decided that the offices be closed immediately for two weeks to avoid further spread of the disease,” said Njora in a memo.

The county secretary directed all the staff from the affected offices to work from home and ensure that they fill in the daily timesheets.

“However, essential services providers that include environment, Public health, enforcement, firefighters and revenue collectors whose services requires field work should continue with their operations. Revenue collection that requires office work must work with minimal staff,” added the County Secretary.

Recently 99 students, four teachers and a subordinate at Muruku secondary school in Salama Ward, not far from Nyahururu tested positive for the virus.

According to the County Health Chief Officer, Dr Donald Mugoi, the 104 tested positive from a total of 282 samples that were collected from both teachers and students at the institution on Friday last week.

The 99 students are still being quarantined at the institution while the teachers are admitted in various hospitals in Nyahururu town. END
