PS Kibicho not in Dennis Itumbi fake letter claim case

The chief investigator in the case in which State House Digital Communications Director Dennis Itumbi is alleged to have written a fake letter claiming there was a plot to assassinate DP William Ruto now says that Interior PS Karanja Kibicho was not the complainant.
Peter Maina a Chief Inspector with the DCI, told Nairobi Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku it was not true that the complaint was by Kibicho, contradicting a previous statement Investigating Officer Yvonne Anyango.
Anyango had told the court on Monday that Kibicho was one of the complainants but his name was dropped because it was found to be unnecessary.
“To the best of my knowledge, the PS was not the complainant in the matter; the State was the complainant,” Maina told the court and denied that Kibicho ever contacted him while he was conducting the investigations.
The lead investigator was testifying in a case in which State house Digital Communications Director Dennis Njue Itumbi was charged with making a false document (the letter) without authority and publishing a false statement.
Itumbi is charged alongside Samuel Gateri. Itumbi is also charged with reprogramming of mobile phone.
According to the charge sheet, he intentionally interfered with the operation of mobile phone, a Samsung Note 9 while he was not the manufacturer of the mobile phone.
Maina told the court yesterday that, DCI George Kinoti was the one who instructed him to do investigations in the alleged fake letter.
When asked by Itumbi’s lawyer Katwa Kigen whether DCI recorded stated from Itumbi, Maina claimed that Itumbi opted to remain silent.
The officer confirmed that Itumbi was not one of the administrators of the Tanga Tanga Whastapp group where he allegedly posted the letter.
Maina also told the court that he did not know when the letter came into existence.
“The first posting to the best of my knowledge was done by Itumbi,” he told the court.
Maina told the court that Gateri was arrested after intelligence report revealed that he was the first person who posted it on Facebook and that he was a prosecution witness before he was later charged.
“When we questioned him, he said that he got it from Tanga Tanga movement where it had been posted,” Maina told the court.
The officer confirmed that Itumbi’s phone did not have the said letter.
