Police in Kitale have arrested one livestock theft suspect and impounded one vehicle that was being used to transport the cow to the slaughter house in the nearby Matisi slaughterhouse in Kitale Municipality.

The arrest on Wednesday 5:00 a.m. followed reports made by the owner of the cow, one Evans Wanjala from Kapsitwet location in Kwanza sub county, leading to a swift police operation which nabbed the suspect.

County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga Ali  said the suspect was  apprehended at Kapsitwet market on the way to Kitale after failing to verify ownership of the cow that had been stucked in the white Probox Car whose registration number is KCR 183 W ready for transportation to the slaughterhouse.

Speaking to the People Daily during Wednesday, the Police boss said the arrest of the suspect was timely, coming at a time when the campaign to dismantle the cattle theft cartels was on and called on the public to volunteer information to help arrest all suspects.

He said a number of suspects had been killed by members of the public and the police in past connections  to rising cases of livestock thefts in some areas within the county where dairy farmers have lost cows worth millions of shillings.

“We have intensified police patrols and roadblocks to rid these areas of cattle theft .We are in the process of  mapping the affected areas and we will stop at nothing to completely stop this syndicate.
