Chandaria industries and the National Youth Council are now reaching out to the youth through the Nyumba Kumi initiative in the battle against the spread of the COVID-19.

The two are working with county administration in sensitizing the youth who according to the government are playing a big role in the spread of the pandemic.

On Monday, Chandaria Industries handed tissue papers, liquid hand wash and face  masks all valued at Ksh 2.7 million to youth groups in Baba Dogo, in Nairobi.

NYC through its FURSA programme says it targets to reach up to 10 million youth in the campaign Vijana Tuhepuke Corona.

“From Baba Dogo, we will move to Dandora, Kariobangi and all the other informal settlements in Nairobi before going out to other counties,”Darshan Chandaria, the Chief Executive Officer of Chandaria Industries said.

“We want to reach out to as many youth as we can because we know they are the most vulnerable when it comes to the spread of the Coronavirus,” he added.

Ministry of ICT Permanent Secretary Julius Korir who was present during the presentation said the government is working towards cushioning the youth economically during this tie.

“We have the Uwezo Fund and other kitties which we will use to help our youth recover economically,” said Korir.

Maina Ngunyi, the Nairobi assistant deputy country commissioner warned the youth from engaging in activities that aid the spread of the COVID-19.

“Through the Nyumba Kumi systems, we are reaching out to the youth to be wary of the spread of this disease,” said Ngumyi.

“We are going to work with youth leaders in this fight and we appreciate the initiative taken by the Chandaria Industries and National Youth Council in reaching out to the youth through such donations.

NYC Chief Executive Officer Roy Sasaka Telewa said it is through reaching out to the youth that the widespread of Coronavirus will be stopped.

“We have carried sensitization campaigns using the hashtag #VijanaTuepukeCorona, advocated for national cohesion using the hashtag #WeAreUnited and #FursaYetu as one of the critical to curb this ravaging pandemic.
