Ruto hits out at Raila over BBI rallies, again
Deputy President William Ruto has said that Kenyans are free to buy land and live in any part of the country and seek any political position.
While reacting to some leaders from the Maa community, Ruto accused the leaders of using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to sell outdate policies.
Speaking in Tarambeta in Gilgil, Ruto lashed out at the politicians noting that he would not allow the country to be divided on petty and tribal grounds.
“Some petty politicians are advocating their interests through BBI and we want to warn them that any Kenya can own land anywhere and seek any political position,”
“We shall also reject the plan by some politicians to outlaw church contributions as we are a God fearing nation,” he said.
Ruto at the same time expressed his concern over the recent move to reject plans to construct Malewa Dam in Nyandarua which would be used to supply water to Gilgil and Naivasha.
“We have directed the Ministry of Water to engage the stakeholders again as this water will also be used in the Industrial Park in Mai Mahiu,” he said.
During the baraza, Ruto kept off the issue of Corona virus even after area and host Mp Martha Wangari condemned the arrival of Chinese workers in the country.
Wangari hit out the CS's for Health and Foreign affairs noting that they would be held personally responsible if any case was reported in the country.
“It’s sad that when other countries are blocking flights from China, in Kenya we are openly welcoming them at a time when the virus has killed many,” he said.
On BBI, Wangari questioned the move to ferry people to Meru for the weekend rally wondering who was sponsoring the transport.
This was echoed by Naivasha Mp Jane Kihara who said that ideas in the original BBI document as presented in Bomas had been hijacked and changed.
“We have decided to keep off this BBI rallies as they have ended up splitting Kenyans further instead of uniting them as previously planned,” she said.
Nakuru Women Rep Liza Chelule said that the country needed water, schools, teacher and good roads as the demands currently been made in the BBI rallies had been captured in the constitution.
“The biggest need we were demanding was devolution and this was achieved in the new constitution and we don’t see the benefit of this rallies,” she said.
