Record 37 Busia health workers test positive for dreaded virus

The Ministry of Health yesterday announced 957 new Covid-19 cases from 5,559 samples, pushing the number of infections to 72,686.
New cases include 37 health workers at Busia County Referral Hospital. One medic was rushed to LifeCare Hospital, Bungoma.
County Covid-19 Coordinator Dr David Mukabi said three other healthcare workers were admitted at Alupe Hospital Isolation Treatment Centre in Teso South Constituency where they are being monitored.
Infected health workers include medical, clinical, public health and laboratory technicians. Already, majority have been placed under home-based care.
At the same time, the country’s fatality shot to 1, 313 after 11 patients succumbed to the virus.
The Health Ministry also announced 2,616 recoveries. Out of these, 2,434 were on home-based care and isolation while 182 from various hospitals. This now brings total recoveries to 49,878.
New cases
A statement dispatched to newsrooms by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe indicated that out of the new cases, 908 are Kenyans while 49 are foreigners; 569 are male while 388 are female.
“… 6,000 people are recuperating under the home-based care programme while 1,191 are admitted to different hospitals across the country,” stated Kagwe. Nairobi recorded 368, Nyeri 53, Kitui 41, Kiambu 40, Kisumu 37, Nyandarua 35, Mombasa 34, Uasin Gishu 34, Kakamega 33, Homa Bay 31, Nakuru 28, Machakos 21, Kericho 21, Makueni 21, Kirinyaga 19, Kajiado 18, Siaya 18, Embu 18, Isiolo 15, Narok 13, Nandi 10, Laikipia 9, Kilifi seven, Marsabit seven, Garissa five, Elgeyo Marakwet four, Trans Nzoia four, Taita Taveta four, West Pokot three, Kwale two, Migori one, Busia one, Samburu one, and Turkana one.
