Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi has come out to hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over a statement he made on Sunday while condemning an incident where ODM leader Raila Odinga was attacked by rowdy youths in a rally in Uasin Gishu County.

While addressing residents during a stopover rally in Embakasi in Nairobi, President Uhuru said that the incident that saw Raila's helicopter damaged was unfortunate and would have led to a crisis in the country if the ODM leader came out injured.

"What if Raila was injured in that attack? Kenya would have been on fire right now and that is not what we want," he said.

President Uhuru's statement has, however, elicited mixed reactions from political elites, with those from Deputy President William Ruto's side rebuking him.

Led by MP Sudi, Ruto's men said that the president's statement was unfortunate accusing him of playing a tribal card in dealing with the chaos witnessed in the past few days.

Sudi accused the president of being biased in condemning violent acts that have been witnessed in the country. According to him, it is unfair for the Head of State to condemn the chaos witnessed in Raila's rally but he failed to do the same when violence was meted out on Ruto during his tour in Kisumu months ago.

"I want to tell the president to stop being tribal. I have occasionally told him to be the president of everyone and not specific people or communities. When we were stoned in Kisumu he said nothing," Sudi said.

On his side, Soy MP Caleb Kositany also asked the president to be mindful of what he tells the public and that he should not rely on the news he gets on social media.

"Our president should rise above dirty politics and social media gossip. He should govern this country accordingly regardless of the number of days he has in office. He made very unfortunate remarks and we now want him to style up a bit because he is the president of the Republic of Kenya," Kositany remarked.
