Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has told off his critics, maintaining that his resolve to fight corruption stands.

Speaking to People Daily yesterday, Wamatangi (pictured) said  his critics have since nicknamed him ‘Mzee Gamu’ for his firm stance against corruption.

While revealing that his administration has inherited a Sh50 million bill from a local hotel incurred by the previous Assembly, the governor said he will close all gaps through which public money was lost.

“It is not easy when you block people who were used to milking money easily. They have now nicknamed me Mzee Gamu for curtailing their schemes,” Wamatangi  said.   He has vowed to be relentless in ensuring prudent expenditure of county finances, saying he will not be bowed by his critics, some of whom have taken to social media platforms to malign him. “I won’t budge even if they call me mean. That is why I decided to put up a tent outside my office to meet people there instead of going to expensive hotels where tea and mandazi is charged Sh500,” he maintained.

He also said others have branded him a neo-colonialist for insisting that they report to work on time and serve the public diligently.

“I do not care how many names they call me, but public servants must justify what they earn through service to Wanjiku, who is their employer,” said Wamatangi.
