South Rift side APS Bomet FC are the latest recruits into the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League after they sealed their promotion yesterday, thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win against Mara Sugar with two matches left to close the season.

The newly crowned National Super League champions have so far amassed 71 points from 35 matches with an eight-point gap after second-placed Fortune Sacco lost a crucial match to Migori Youth away.

The win at Bomet Stadium was their 21st victory of the campaign and see them enjoy a goal difference of +21 currently. They now join Ulinzi Stars and Kenya Police FC as the third disciplined forces team in the top tier.

Club CEO Rose Chemutai was excited with the feat and praised her charges for the diligence and commitment they put in their campaign.

“I want to sincerely thank the coaches, playing unit and indeed the management for a commendable job. This is a happy day for all of us and it is because of the teamwork and hard work put in. If one can analyze our situation last time and now, there has been massive improvement in this team. I believe the office will look at our resources as we plan ahead to a difficult maiden season in the Premier League so we have to be ready,” she told People Sport on phone from Bomet yesterday.

Meanwhile, Fortune Sacco unexpectedly lost against 11th placed Migori Youth, suffering a shock 2-0 defeat which now leaves them in third spot on 63 points with two matches to go. The Kerugoya based team was the only team at the top that seemed to have a go at APS but failed to sustain the pressure when it mattered.

Sacco under Nichodemus Omasete will now be keen to avoid an unpredictable playoff sincea rejuvenated Muhoroni Youth side are looking to upset the form-book.

Muhoroni Youth now on 63 points as well, are placed second after scoring two extra time goals to win 2-1 against 10-man Naivas FC who are eighth on the log with 50 points in a match played at Camp Toyoyo.

The sugarmen are tied with Fortune Sacco on 18 wins thus far but with a small goal difference of +15 and +14 respectively. Joseph Ongere’s men have had an upsurge especially in the second leg and will be praying for further faltering of Fortune Sacco to return to the big time for the second time in four years. Muhoroni met Champions-elect APS Bomet away in what is expected to be a great match for fans.

In other matches of the day,Mully Children FC hammered Coastal Heroes 6-0 in the biggest defeat for the coastal boys this season. Heroes who are in the relegation spot in 18th place, conceded five goals in a space of 26 minutes in the second half as their backline literally collapsed. Heroes are on 32 points off 33 matches with only 10 wins in this campaign. Fifth placed MCF on their part who face off with Fortune Sacco next ,are riding high with 56 points.
