Basketball Federation to conduct trials in search of Youth Games team

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF), is set to conduct national trials, and final selection of Kenya’s 3x3 basketball team, to represent the country in the upcoming 2022 Africa Youth Games. 

The exercise will kick off at the KBF branch levels on March 26-27, 2022, across the country, with the preliminaries and qualifiers, where each branch, is set to select the top 8 boys and 8 girls, who are aged between 14 -18 years for the national trials. 

After the completion of the branch preliminaries and qualifiers, the exercise will then head to the final round of selection in Nairobi, between April 2nd and 3rd, 2022, where the top four boys and four girls will be admitted into the youth camp in thereafter, to prepare adequately for the Under-20 continental games set for August 28 to September 7, 2022, in Cairo, Egypt. 

KBF secretary, Ambrose Kisoi said that the move to involve and conduct the national trials and selection exercise from the branch level is meant to ensure that there is equal opportunity for everyone interested 

“Branch officials in conjunction with the respective 3x3 branch organizers will coordinate the preliminaries round as the National 3x3 coordinator Hilmi Ali, who is also the KBF first Vice Chairman, is tasked to coordinate the final round,” Kisoi said. 

The games are an international multi-sport event that is held every four years to complement the current All-Africa Games. The national trials and selection, coordinator Hilmi Ali is looking forward to selecting a very strong team of eight players (four boys and four girls) that will fly the country’s flag high in the championship.
