KCAA dethrone KPA as Kecoso basketball champions
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) are the new Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (Kecoso) basketball women champions.
KCAA beat defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 50-44 in a tightly contested final played at Kisii School yesterday.
Celia Ochieng anchored KCAA to their first ever Kecoso basketball title with 16 points, the highest in the match, with outstanding Sandra Ekasiba scoring 12 points in the Most Valuable Player performance. Brenda Angeshi and Becky Nkantha’s 15 and 10 points respectively were but consolation for the KPA side.
“It was a tough match considering that we have never won this title but composure and set plays as well as holding on to our system won us the trophy. This is an indication that KCAA has been maturity, it was work in progress and the investment in the team has paid dividends,” KCAA coach Carol Ouma told People Sport.
In the men’s category, PCK will be out to defend their title against KCAA today.
PCK thrashed KAA 82-36 to make it into the finals after completely overpowering KAA, taking charge of the match from start to finish, winning the first quarter 19-6, second quarter 17-5, third quarter 23-15 and fourth quarter 21-10.
KCAA on their side had beaten KPA 70-47 in the first semifinal played in the morning.
In today’s other matches, KBC take on KPA in snooker finals and KBC’s manager David Karanja is hopeful his team will reclaim their title they won in Kisumu in 2017.
“Last year we didn’t participate but this year we fielded four teams in netball, pool, scrabble and snooker and even though we have finished fifth in netball, I have high hopes of winning the other three disciplines,” upbeat David Karanja told People Sport after leading his pool team to beat KFS 19-6 to reach the quarter-finals. KCAA and CA will battle it out for the third/fourth position.
