Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side KCB coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has watered down Gor Mahia’s widely discussed visit to the grave of Gor Obunga at Kanyamwa village in Homa Bay after they were stunned 2-1 by Nzoia Sugar at the weekend.

Gor Obunga a son of Obunga Ogallo and Nyatoka Okado is a legendary Luo medicine man the club was named after. Gor’s Portuguese head coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto led a section of senior players, assistant coach Sammy Omollo and Team Manager Jolawi Obondo for the ‘ritual’.

“Visiting someone’s grave is not part of football and we are not bothered even a bit. We play our football on the pitch and we will show them on Sunday as we seek to bounce back to our winning ways,” Zico told People Sport.

Early league pace setters KCB have now gone for three matches without a win, losing 2-1 to Nzoia Sugar, before sharing spoils with Sofapaka 2-2, in mid last week the losing 3-0 to Kariobangi Sharks at the weekend.

“There is no cause of alarm despite the fact that we have not won in three matches. We have been fatigued and that could have been expected, because we first played in Kisii in a Cup competition, before we travelled to Bungoma, then we travelled about 1,000 kilometrest to Wundanyi, before returning to Nairobi to meet Kariobangi Sharks who had rested the whole week,” said Zico who has initially represented Gor both as a player and assistant coach.

He added: “We went back to the drawing board and we are fully focused on our next match against the reigning league champions.”

Currently KCB are second on the league table on 26 points from 13 matches with a match at hand.

They are trailining league leaders Tusker by six points, while Gor yesterday leaped from 12th spot to ninth on 19 points from 11 matches after coming from behind to beat Kakamega Homeboyz.
