NSL leaders Mara Sugar and Mathare United are firmly on course to securing promotion to the FKFPL for the 2025-25 season.

Mara sugar’s record this season has been nothing but stellar, recording 9 wins from their past NSL nine matches. The last time they lost a match was back in March 31, going down 2-0 to third tier side Compel FC in a round of 16 FKF Cup fixture at the Jomo Kenyatta stadium.

Even more impressive so, the Benedict Wanjala has managed to register 6-0 scores two times this season, the wins coming against SS Assad and Kajiado Fc.

Wrestling the league lead away from Naivas and Mathare who all led at a point in the season, Mara now need just four points from their remaining fixtures to secure promotion.

The leaders face relegation threatened Gusii Fc in their next match before hosting Nairobi United and Silibwet consecutively in what midfielder Michael Isabwa terms as ‘finals’

‘’Every match for us is like a final now. We are not dropping our guard down because we have experienced just how competitive the league is,’’

Mathare United are also in contention to make a comeback to top tier football, placed second on 67 points, four behind leaders Mara Sugar and seven clear of third placed Naivas with six rounds left to play. They have won 20 of their 32 fixtures, drawing 7 and lost 5.

The Nairobi side parted ways with head coach Leonard Odipo midseason before onboarding former Harambee stars tactician Francis Kimanzi as head coach. Coupled with seven new additions in the last transfer window, the slum boys will fancy their promotion chances as the season heads to a close.

Despite losing league leader status midway through the season, they will have their eyes firmly fixed on promotion when they face Rainbow FC in a round 33 match on May 25.

Naivas Fc, Nairobi Fc and Kisumu All Stars have a chance to make it to the playoffs if no drastic changes happen to the log before season end.

Kajiado Fc, Gusii Fc and Silibwet Lions find themselves in relegation danger heading into match week 33. The teams are on 26, 23 and 22 points respectively.

Kajiado face third placed Naivas in an away fixture while both Gusii and Silibwet play hosts to Mara Sugar and Mulembe United in the next round of matches.
