Kabras hunt away as they seek Cup grip
Last season’s Kenya Cup finalists Kabras Sugar will be away Saturday as they seek maximum points to keep up their current 15 points tie whilst it will be a moment of truth when Nakuru play Kenya Harlequins in the clash of the bottom sides at the Nakuru Athletic Club.
Kabras will be at Jamhuri grounds against Nondescripts in the weekend’s double-header while KCB welcome back Kenyan international quartet of Johnstone Olindi, Vincent Onyala, Andrew Amonde and Jacob Ojee.
Hosts Oilers will nonetheless bear faith and hunger to register first win over the bankers on home soil despite the quality of opposition KCB will offer backed up by experience and a solid pack.
The defending champions won during their last visit at the Nakuru ASK grounds in a 29-20 scoreline to leave them as favourites but Oilers are in a current good form despite registering their first loss to Homeboyz last weekend.
Kabras playing at Jamhuri grounds will be hoping to deliver a fourth win but the decision of leaving Nairobi without conceding a try lies in the Red Lion’s courts inspired by a 38-28 away win over Blak Blad last weekend.
The sugar millers will be the favourites of the match backed up by an aggregate of 81 points scored and 18 conceded in their last two visits at Jamhuri.
At the Nakuru Athletic Club, Nakuru and Harlequins have lined up their best for the battle of the bottom clash to determine who will remain winless after four rounds.
The hosts have lost to Oilers and Homeboyz at the same venue to grant Harlequins boss and former Nakuru coach Dominique Habimana relief on their quest to claim their first win on away grounds.
Harlequins boast of an experienced squad on the away mission with five changes highlighted by positional change of David Ambunya to start at fly-half in place of rested Eden Agero. Nakuru trio of centre Walter Okoth, Hannington Wabwire and Monate Akuei will throw in chance creating and individual finishing efforts should Harlequins fail to work all round especially in the last period of the match.
The other and the third unbeaten side, Homeboyz will kick off the round with the opener match against Western Bulls at 2pm then followed by Kabras v Nondies clash.
To complete the weekend pairings will be two matches to break jinx, Impala and Mwamba face off at the Impala grounds where one team will register the second loss while Blak Blad scent their first win against Kisumu at Kenyatta University grounds.
Kisumu towed Nondies 19-15 at the Mambo Leo show ground for their first win over Nondies while Blak Blad scored 28 points against Nondies but failed to capture the win courtesy of falling short by ten points in a 38-28 thriller.
