Shabana FC coach Sammy Okoth has maintained nothing will stop his side from being crowned the National Super League (NSL) champions on the final day of the season.

The Kisii-based glamour boys dropped vital points on Sunday after losing 2-1 against fellow title chasers Murang’a Seal FC at St. Sebastian Park in Muranga.

Muranga’s victory saw them cut Shabana’s lead at the top of the log to two points (at 68 points) as Shabana are leading the log with 70 points. Despite the defeat, Shabana coach Okoth is not concerned that the title is slipping away, adding what Murang’a did was just to postpone their celebrations.

“I have always said they can keep postponing our celebrations but what must remain clear is that we are the champions and it will happen, even if they keep postponing the crowning, we are the champions and nothing will change,” quipped Okoth.

“Today (Sunday) they (Murang’a) managed to postpone our celebrations for the title yet again but the good part is that they now want us to be crowned at home (in our last game), and we are prepared for that moment and it will definitely happen at our own backyard.”
On the team’s defeat against Seal, Okoth blamed it on fatigue citing the team’s congested fixture in recent weeks.

“We started the game on a slow pace and we all know the reason because we have been playing matches week in and week out,” said Okoth, adding: “Our start to the game was not good but in the second half, we took charge and control of the game, though we could not catch up with them because we had already conceded and it was too late for us.”

Meanwhile, Muranga coach Vincent Nyaberi is also not giving up on the title race insisting they will go for a straight win against Gusii FC in their final fixture of the season on Saturday.

“It was not easy against Shabana because we were playing against the table leaders, and my target now is the next game against Gusii FC, it is not done yet, we are still hoping to win the title, and we want to be ready for Saturday,” said Nyaberi.

Shabana will host Kisumu All Stars at Gusii Stadium while Murang’a will travel to Kisii for an encounter against Gusii FC next Saturday.
