Ulinzi Starlets register convincing win in FKF Women’s Cup

FKF Women Premier League outfit Ulinzi Starlets booked their place in the quarter-final of the FKF Women’s Cup following their emphatic 3-0 victory against Royal Starlets in the Round of 16 fixture played at the Ndura Sports Complex over the weekend.

Fasila Adhiambo opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, propelling Ulinzi Starlets into the lead. Just 12 minutes later, she secured her brace, firmly establishing her team’s dominance and bringing the halftime score to 2-0. In the second half, Linda Kihara of Ulinzi Starlets sealed the deal with a goal in the 66th minute.

Speaking after the game, Adhiambo praised their opponents for giving them a difficult start before they managed to get the breakthrough. “We had to use every tricky in the book to break them down, Royal (Starlets) were no pushovers, they played well in the opening stages but when we took the lead, we controlled the game to the end,” said Adhiambo.

Elsewhere, at the Nakuru Showgrounds, Zetech Sparks triumphed over Vickers Queens with a 4-0 victory, securing their spot in the last eight of the knockout competition. Fridhaus Abdalla broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, capitalising on a rebound inside the penalty box and granting Zetech Sparks the lead. Monalizer Anyango doubled their advantage in the 35th minute, ensuring a 2-0 half-time lead in favor of Zetech Sparks.

The second half saw Beverline Adika extend Zetech Sparks’ lead with a goal in the 55th minute before Sheril Chaviha sealed the victory with a well-taken effort in the 78th minute. Kangemi Ladies also sailed to the last eight following their hard-earned 1-0 victory against Kayole Starlets at Ruaraka grounds, while Bungoma Queens qualified after dispatching Equity Queens 2-0. Kibera Soccer Ladies were also winners in the Round of 16 fixture after seeing off Acakoro Ladies 3-1at Ruaraka grounds.

On Saturday, FC Milima Queens and Kisiwa Starlets secured their spots in the last eight after wins against FKF Women Premier League sides Nakuru City Queens and Vihiga Queens at Sudi Stadium. The first half ended in a deadlock with neither team threatening the goal. However, the second half witnessed a change of fortunes as Barbara Masitsa opened the scoring for Milima Queens in the 47th minute before Eunice Nabwoba’s brace in the 81st and 88th minute to seal a 3-0 victory.

In the early kick-off of the doubleheader at Sudi Stadium, Kisiwa starlets beat Vihiga Queens by a sole goal in the 32nd minute by Shamim Makokha. Over at MamboLeo Stadium, Kenya Police Bullets booked a spot in the quarter-final after beating KISPED 2-0.

 Lucy Kwekwe scored Bullet’s opener in the 31st minute taking a lead into halftime break before Diana Wacera sealed the victory in the 54th minute.
