Sakaja fined Sh15,000 for breaking curfew order

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has been sentenced to pay a fine of Sh15,000 in default to serve three months in prison after pleading guilty to flouted the government's curfew orders.
Appearing before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Roselyne Onganyo, Senator Sakaja pleaded guilty to breaching curfew orders on July 18, at 1am at Ladies Lounge Bar along Dennis Pritt Road in Kilimani, Nairobi County.
The senator was found imbibing alcohol in contravention of state curfew orders.
Sakaja has since resigned as the chairman of the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Covid-19.
Through his lawyer John Khaminwa, the senator pleaded for leniency saying he has already apologized to the public and resigned from the Covid-19 committee.
The maximum sentence for flouting curfew order is Sh20,000 or 6 months in jail.
Magistrate told the senator to submit his resignation in writing from the Covid-19 team because there is no evidence he has resigned.
