Azimio One Kenya coalition presidential running mate Martha Karua has urged the electorate to shun divisive politics ahead of the August general election.

Speaking at a rally in Kericho County on Sunday, July 10, 2022, the Narc Kenya leader said tribal politics hinder economic progress.

"Msikubali tuwagawanye wakati was siasa tukiwaambia huyu ndio mtu wako. Sisi sote ni binadamu, tusimame pamoja tuone Kenya yetu imeinuka kiuchumi na maisha yetu imeboreka," she said.

Loosely translated, "Don't allow politicians to divide you along tribal lines...Let us all stand together as Kenyans and work to improve the economy of our country.

Karua, who was in the company of Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga, also warned the electorate against electing corrupt individuals.

Loosely translated, "Let us all elect politicians who can be trusted. Those who can take care of the country's resources well and better the lives of the citizens. If we elect corrupt leaders we shall have ourselves to blame."

Karua hits out at Ruto

Karua, indirectly, took a dig at Raila's arch-rival, William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza alliance, for criticizing the Azimio coalition as one led by people who don't value religion

This loosely translates, "All of us are God's children. There is no single person tasked with auditing who is and who is not a Christian. Going to church doesn't make one a Christian but their behaviour. Look around and you will know who is a true Christian."

On his part, Raila promised that the Azimio government will prioritize policies meant to curb the corruption vice in the country, if he wins the polls slated for August 9.

While addressing the current economic crisis that has seen the cost of living rise exponentially, the ODM party leader said the Azimio team has an elaborate plan to reduce the high prices of food.

Raila is expected to make several stopovers in various constituencies to address supporters across the Rift Valley county considered Ruto's stronghold.

His visit to Kericho comes after he concluded his two-day tour in Kakamega county on Saturday, July 9.
