Kitui Rural constituency has recorded a relatively low voter turnout in the ongoing parliamentary election.

The constituency has about 50,000 eligible voters across 157 polling stations.

In kanyangi polling station which has 505 registered voters, only 60 voters had already cast their votes by 9:30 am while in Kisasi polling station 40 out of 923 registered voters have cast their votes.

In Mbitini polling station, 524 of 1293 voters have already cast their votes as of now.

According to one of the residents, Muema Kiluku, in one of the polling stations, the low turnout can be attributed to varied priorities among residents.

"People are now busy with their work and I think this is why we have fewer people in polling stations," he said.
