Raila, Karua campaign in Kiambu as hunt for Mt. Kenya vote intensifies

Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running-mate Martha Karua today July 6, 2022, take their campaigns to Kiambu, the home of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the most vote rich county in the Mt. Kenya region.

Raila and Karua held the first joint campaigns in Mt. Kenya on Tuesday July 5 when they toured Nyeri county holding rallies at different stopovers.

The duo campaigned separately before they graced a joint rally where they urged Nyeri residents to vote for their presidential ticket on August 9.

Kiambu key to Azimio's plan of clinching the presidency

Raila and Karua will today hold several rallies in Kiambu county, the duo is expected to address a gathering in Gatundu which is the home of President Uhuru Kenyatta who has endorsed the Azimio presidential candidate and his running mate.

Kiambu county is the most populous of all counties that make up Mt. Kenya region. According to voter details published by the IEBC, Central Kenya which is home to five counties has a total of 3.1 million voters.

The region overwhelmingly voted for President Kenyatta and late President Mwai Kibaki in previous elections where Odinga faced off with the duo.

Now that President Kenyatta is supporting Odinga, there is hope that the electorate in Mt. Kenya would for the Azimio presidential candidate.

Raila has been receiving a warm reception in Mt. Kenya, signaling changing fortunes for the man whose candidacy received a boost after he picked Karua as running-mate. Karua hails from the neighbouring Kirinyaga county where the Azimio team will go after Kiambu.
