Roots Party, whose presidential candidate is George Wajackoyah, is the third most popular political outfit in Nairobi county - a new survey by TIFA shows.

In the poll results released on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, TIFA ranks Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party as the most popular in Nairobi at 30 per cent.

Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party came second with 22 per cent in popularity.

In third place is Wajackoya's Roots party which ties with the ruling Jubilee Party of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Wajackoya rising in popularity

According to the TIFA survey, Roots party had zero per cent popularity in May 2022 when Jubilee Party's popularity was at five per cent.

Wajackoya's popularity has been on the upward trend and now Ruto's allies like Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot fear he might force a run-off.

Cheruiyot while speaking during an interview on a local TV station lamented that Wajackoyah was becoming a threat to the hustler nation because of the way he is gaining popularity even in Ruto's strongholds in Rift Valley.

"If this Wajackoyah pushes hard enough and scores anywhere upwards of 500,000 votes he can easily force a runoff. He is making some funny promises to these percentage that you are talking about that is not so significant. It's not only the youth, even the middle class. You know people are just excited about promises of legalising weed but you are forgetting that he has also promised something that is very appealing to the middle class," he said.
