Over 20 MCAs from Kisii yesterday demanded the arrest of South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro accusing him of allegedly sponsoring thuggery in the county.

The MCAs who addressed a press conference in Nairobi demanded that the government apprehends the lawmaker within 24 hours failing which they would take unspecified action against him.

Led by Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda, the MCAs drawn from both the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza coalitions accused the government of abetting Osoro’s unbecoming behaviour.

They recounted more than five occasions where the National Assembly Chief Whip, with support of hired thugs, allegedly unleashed terror against perceived political rivals.

This, the MCAs said includes the broad daylight attack on a boda boda rider three weeks ago which led to him succumbing to the injuries, allegedly because he was clad in a vest with Governor Simba Arati’s name on it.

“We have noticed incidents where Osoro has directly unleashed his goons on people and public institutions,” the MCAs, five of them from President William Ruto’s UDA Party said in a statement read by Leader of Majority, Henry Moracha.

The Kisiii leadership press conference came only hours after President Ruto hosted Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu at State House, Nairobi Saturday evening.

The MCAs accused Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kindiki Kithure of failing to act on their grievances.

Stormed hospital

They cited an incident in Nyamarambe, in the MP’s constituency where with hired goons he is said to have stormed Nduru Level IV Hospital, harassed patients, medical staff and supervised destruction of property.

“He unleashes terror on people even where it is not necessary, and his childish behaviour is now unbecoming and unwelcome,” the leaders said.

One such incident according to the MCAs, was last week during a funeral service of Boikang’a MCA, Paul Okombo’s father, Mzee Ayiema when the MP and his goons stormed the venue allegedly wielding crude weapons including bows and arrows.

“He arrived in a manner that showed he was coming for war,” Moracha said, adding that the MP even tried to stop Arati from addressing the mourners.

“When this failed, his goons started hurling stones and other projectiles including arrows at the mourners and in the turmoil that followed, people were injured, women suffered broken limbs and vehicles belonging to mourners were destroyed,” the leaders said.

“Our question is, who is protecting Hon. Osoro? Why does the IG Police, Japheth Koome listen to him, and act on his instructions? Why is the CS for Interior quiet on this?” the leaders posed.

The UDA MCAs said they were drafting a petition to the party leadership to protest Osoro’s actions.

“We are working on a petition to the party hierarchy over Osoro’s unbecoming behaviour because we feel that he is soiling the ruling party’s name, locally and nationally,” Kegogi ward UDA MCA, Jared Masieka asserted. Dr Monda decried Osoro’s behaviour wondering why he was misusing the powers given to him by the office he serves at the National Assembly yet he has only been there for a short period.

“Therefore, we as the leaders from Kisii county are demanding for the immediate arrest of Osoro to be prosecuted for violence on people and protecting criminals who are in the wanted list of the police,” he said.
