Nairobi County Assembly has rejected four nominees for the posts of County Chief Officers, while one failed to appear for vetting.

The four include; Winnie Gathangu for Economic Planning, Justus Kathenge for Boroughs and SubCounty Administration, Elizabeth Njeri Njau who was vetted for Markets and Trade and Bernard Buluma Kulokhoma who had been nominated and vetted for Wellness, Nutrition, and School slots. Collins Omondi Kamol, set for Agriculture & Natural Resources, did not show up for vetting.

The legislatures stated that Gathangu, who served during Sonko's time and was sacked as the Agriculture CEC, had failed to deliver as required and cannot be approved.

On the other part, Buluma was accused of a lack of vast knowledge of what he had been nominated for in the health sector and was only equipped in economic planning.

Collins Omondi never showed up for the vetting even after submitting his documents to the clerk of the Assembly timely as required.

"As a committee, we agreed on the nomination of the other nominees except for Winnie failed to deliver when serving in the County sometime back," they stated.

The approval of the 28 Chief Officers was done by the Majority (Azimio) after the Minority (Kenya Kwanza) snubbed the special sitting accusing Governor Sakaja of sidelining them in the appointments.

The MCAs stated that they are the ones who worked hard to ensure Sakaja won the elections and as a party, they are not happy with his undertakings.

"We want to tell Governor Sakaja that what you are doing is not okay and the people who fought for Kenya Kwanza as hustlers are not happy. They have sent us because they went out of their way to ensure he won the elections," MCA Kiragu of Waithaka ward claimed.

On his part, the Minority Chief Whip and Umoja 1 MCA, Mark Mugambi, stated that the UDA members would not undertake the signing of the reports by the various committees.

"Our members will not sign the reports of the vetting committees as we pulled them from the process. We are here to tell them to go ahead and snub the special session set for the afternoon," Mugambi stated.

On Thursday, the Kenya Kwanza allied MCAs walked out of the ICT and Energy Committee during the vetting of County Chief Officer Nominee Lucky Opudo, accusing her of not submitting her credentials on time.

They further accused her of being of questionable credibility after what transpired at the Bomas of Kenya when the election results were to be announced.

"We all know that Lucky Ogutu is the lady who was seen snatching people's phones and laptops at the Bomas of Kenya. This could have sunk the country into chaos at such a crucial time and we cannot allow such a character to be a chief officer in Nairobi," Kiragu stated.
