Thika Town Member of Parliament Alice Ng'ang'a has dismissed claims of a political split in the Mount Kenya region leadership, insisting that the bloc is solidly behind President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

The legislator termed the perceived fallout between leaders either in favour of or against Gachagua as a creation of the media and other people out to cause divisions, maintaining that the DP is the de facto kingpin of the vote-rich region.

Ng'ang'a, who was speaking after presenting a Ksh5 million cheque for the expansion of Broadway Secondary in the sprawling Kiandutu slum, also rubbished speculation that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was taking over the mantle from Gachagua.

"Every time the people of Mount Kenya appear to be together others want to cause divisions by trying to cause cracks. I want to say that we are solidly behind Gachagua and President Ruto in working for our people who gave us five years to serve them.

"There is nothing like anyone taking over the role of the DP. The President was sworn in at Kasarani along with Gachagua as his deputy and this position has not changed," the lawmaker said.

Unite country

She also urged President Ruto to continue with his mission of uniting the country and reviving the economy, maintaining that Kenyans were fully behind him.

Ruto's recent shakeup of his Cabinet saw Mudavadi take up the Foreign Affairs docket, fuelling speculation that the head of state may be grooming him for the number two slot.

At the same time, Ng'ang'a rooted for the splitting of her constituency and Kiambu County into two on account of the huge population, arguing that representation is a key factor in allocation of resources.

Recently there have been growing calls by a cross-section of leaders for splitting of Kiambu County and some of the densely populated electoral areas including Thika, Ruiru, Juja and Kiambaa constituencies to ensure equitable distribution of resources.

"The funds we receive as NG-CDF allocation is too little compared to the constituency's needs and huge population. Time has come to split Thika and other highly populated areas as well as Kiambu County so that our people get fair representation," the lawmaker maintained.

Ng'ang'a said most of the public schools in her constituency including Broadway Secondary were in dire need of facilities like laboratories and classrooms as the huge number of learners outstrips what is available.

She added that the constituency also deserves creation of at least five more wards to ensure people are well represented at the grassroots.
