Uhuru’s allies in fresh push for Ruto’s eviction from his Karen residence
Associates of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the Senate have renewed calls to have Deputy President William Ruto evicted from his official residence in Karen as well as denied perks and benefits that come with his position.
This even as President Uhuru’s circles intimated to People Daily that the State Department of Public Works is “prepared” to issue a vacate notice to Ruto and his family to leave the Karen residence to allow for “renovations.”
The “renovations,” according to sources, are in preparation for the next occupant of the DP’s office.
Citing Ruto’s recent comments on the “artificial fuel crisis” in which the DP linked the ongoing shortage to the works of “cartels and State barons”, Uhuru’s men claim the Jubilee government, which Ruto helped form in 2013 and 201, has had enough of his criticism and that it is time he vacates his Karen residence and foregoes the perks and benefits that come with his position.
They have the backing of ODM boss Raila Odinga and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s allies.
According to DP’s critics, he should bolt out of Government and take up full responsibility as opposition chief alongside his counterparts in the Kenya Kwanza brigade.
“There are individuals in this country who are trying to get mileage out of small crises that we have thinking they are not part of the Government when they are actually at the helm earning salaries and enjoying privileges,” Senate Deputy Main the Senate Senator Fatuma Dullo said.
According to Dullo (pictured), it is wrong for people (Ruto and his allies) to criminalise or accuse the Jubilee administration of illegally obtaining political mileage.
Her sentiments were shared by Nominated Senator Farhiya Ali, who said she finds it strange that somebody (Ruto) would want to take perks and benefits that come with his position but could not want to take responsibility for the failures and successes of the same government.
Political advantage
“Every time somebody says the Jubilee Government has done this or that--- I know my President has done a good job for this country. When people blame him, the same people should take responsibility to be part of that blame,” she said.
Farhiya, who took over as Senate Majority whip after Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi defected to Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance alleges it has become a habit by the Deputy President to continuously use the unfortunate national crises to his political advantage.
“You cannot lie to Kenyans today and change the following day because it is convenient for you. Kenyans are not foolish; they can see through lies,” she said.
Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, a Raila ally, said the problem facing the country is having people in the government who want to behave like they are in the opposition.
“It is a shame! Today, he is in Karen as the Deputy President chairing IBEC meeting. Tomorrow, you will find him in a rally saying he is a member of the opposition and blaming the Government. We cannot solve problems that way,” Omogeni said.
