Wanjigi has original agreement I signed with Uhuru – Ruto
Deputy President William Ruto on Monday revisited reports that businessman Jimi Wanjigi is one of the key players that ensured the Jubilee coalition came into power in 2013.
Speaking at the Safina Party National Delegates Convention where Wanjigi was nominated as the party presidential candidate in the coming elections, Ruto revealed a good relationship he has enjoyed with the tycoon.
Ruto revealed that while he was signing an agreement with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013, the businessman was the only person present at the meeting and that he is the only one who knows the details of the meeting.
The DP further revealed that it is the Safina presidential flagbearer who has the only copy of the agreement he signed with President Uhuru.
"Wanjigi is a great friend whom I have worked with on several occasions and has done many things for our team. When Uhuru and I decided to reengineer the politics of our nation, the third person who was in that meeting was Jimi Wanjigi. He still keeps the original agreement that was signed between me and the president," Ruto said.
Ruto's sentiment confirms claims that were previously made by Wanjigi that he mid-wifed the formation of Jubilee party that brought the DP and the president together.
At the time, Wanjigi said that the negotiations to form the Jubilee coalition ahead of the 2013 election were done in his palatial home in Muthaiga.
“I want to tell President Uhuru Kenyatta that you know this home very well. You have had meals here with my family several times. The current government was formed in this very house,” Wanjigi said back in 2017.
Ruto said that it is due to the cordial relationship and shared ideologies that he share with the businessman that they have opted to work together once again ahead of the August 9 general election.
