Where did this love story begin?

Sylvia: We met at a funky in high school in 2005. He was in Mang’u High School while I was in Limuru Girls. I was playing basketball, and we used to go to their school for sports. I noticed him because he was handsome, and I was the first one to say ‘Hi’. That’s where it all began.

How did it proceed to dating?

We started writing each other letters, then decided to make it official, like girlfriend-boyfriend, over half term. We continued dating even after high school the same year, and our love grew stronger and stronger. We had our ruracio in 2015 and a baby followed.

What made you fall in love with him?

He’s been loving and kind ever since I met him. I like the fact that he reminds us his family that he loves us on a daily basis. He is also faithful.

How was the proposal?

He took me to Tribe Hotel for dinner in July 2014, where he went on one knee. It was great. I was not really surprised about it, because I knew it would happen before the traditional wedding. The only thing I didn’t know is when it would happen; I was probably caught off guard. We were congratulated by the crowd, who made us redo the whole episode just for photos. I loved my engagement ring too.

What was memorable about your traditional wedding?

What stuck in my mind was the food. It was delicious and in plenty. I was also happy to see many of our friends come in large numbers to support us. I felt special and it was really a blessing to have them around.

How easy or challenging was the wedding planning?

The process was so stressful, since we opted to do it by ourselves. We had a small committee that assisted us towards the end, and we’re glad that friends came through both financially and emotionally.

What memorable events took place on the wedding day?

Mmmmh… Everything!

We woke up that morning to no electricity and heavy rain. Thank God the house was solar-powered, so, at least we showered, but had to get in three different cars to go do our make-up and hair at a friend’s house. Imagine that.

It also poured when we got to the reception, but despite the rain, we danced like the world was coming to an end. We danced till when it stopped. My line-up was amazing fun, all the way to the after party. The groom was really psyched up, his dancing was memorable too.

What advice would you give couples planning their wedding?

My advice is never to bank on money that they don’t have. Also, they shouldn’t listen to many suggestions, and they should be firm in whatever they decide to do.
