Chief Justice Maraga roots for alternative dispute resolution
Chief Justice David Maraga yesterday urged new advocates to explore alternative dispute resolution mechanisms before launching cases in court.
Maraga said in his long time of practice, he has witnessed instances where cases take a long time in court for lack of proper advise, even as he stated that it is not always about battles in court.
Speaking yesterday at the Supreme Court when he officiated admission of 144 new advocates to the Bar, the CJ urged the advocates to fight for their clients’ cases, saying they do not have to win all the time.
“What is important is to ensure that the rule of law prevails. As a judge of many years, I have seen cases being lost, which should not have.
I have seen clients cry because their cases have not been well handled. I have seen clients cry because they did not receive proper advise,” said Maraga.
He further urged them to have the courage to decline some of the cases brought to them particularly those that would see them get into professional misconduct.
