The Orange party is today expected to ratify key decisions that could alter the management of its Elections Board.

ODM’s National Governing Council (NGC) meeting set for this morning will among other agenda, ratify key recommendations of its National Executive Council (NEC) on grassroot polls and changing of the National Elections Board (NEB) to National Elections Council.

Yesterday, party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna confirmed that NGC is one of the top organs of the party that can ratify recommendations of NEC.

“The NGC are meeting to endorse the resolution of NEC. This including revamping the election coordinating committee ahead of our grassroots elections. That is the agenda of the meeting,” Sifuna, also the Nairobi Senator said.

ODM Political Affairs Secretary Opiyo Wandayi explained that NGC can perform functions of the National Delegates Conference (NDC) which meets once in five years.

According to the Ugunja MP and National Assembly Minority Leader, NGC ratifications is final since the organ can act on behalf of NDC. “NGC will ratify the recommendations of NEC. Whatever they ratify will be final since they can act on behalf of the National Delegates Conference. There are a few issues NEC recommended,” said Wandayi.

NGC will be meeting to endorse the new-look three-Member National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) to replace the defunct National Elections Board (NEB) that was disbanded following recommendations of the National Executive Committee (NEC) on September 6, 2023.

Further, NGC will ratify the proposal to have NECC which now has devolved roles, and will be executed at the County Level by a three-member County Elections Committees.
