Government’s failure to pay electricity bill paralyses operations at Huduma Centre in Eldoret

Huduma Centre operations have been halted in Eldoret for the second day running after Kenya Power disconnected electricity supply in most of the government offices due to alleged debt arrears.

Hundreds of residents from North Rift counties seeking services from have been stranded in Eldoret and many of them have now been forced to hire accommodation facilities.

"I came all the way from Lodwar to renew my driving license. I have not received any services here. No explanation has been given to me for the second day and I'm forced to spend a lot. I'm afraid I may lose my job," James Elim said.

Huduma centre station manager Ogenda Reuben confirmed service interruption for the second day.

"We have had no operations since yesterday evening. We have no power and our back up generator has a mechanical problem. However, we expect operations to resume normally within the shortest time possible," Ogenda said.

Power supply has affected immigration offices in Eldoret among other key government offices.
