Kakamega county to oversee proper work at Bukhungu
Kakamega County Executive for Culture and Sports Robert Makhanu says his office will be firmly on the ground to ensure Phase Two of construction works at Bukhungu stadium is completed on time and meets international standards.
His ascomes days after area governor Wycliffe Oparanya visited the site to commission phase two of the construction that is estimated to cost Sh2.5 billion which is expected to be completed early in the year 2022.
“The task ahead is quite challenging but its good that such kind of historic project is under my docket.
We will try to play our part to the best of our knowledge through our systems and I am sure will deliver,” Makhanu told People Sport in Kakamega yesterday.
“We did well to ensure the first phase that cost Sh500 million was well done after involving and working hand in hand with other stakeholders that saw us get the opportunity to host some of the Cecafa Senior Challenge matches in 2017.
From this, we have the experience and the knowledge to ensure that this flagship project meets the standards that will see our county finding its position on international level,” he added.
“We will be working on putting up perimetre fence, wall, terraces, roof, wash rooms and the offices to ensure easy and fast delivery of services to the public once the facility is complete.
I believe my office will do good together with the contractor to ensure that the legacy of governor Oparanya has been realised through this sporting facility not only in Kenya but also in East Africa,” stated Makhanu.
Once complete, Bukhungu will be a 30,000-seater stadium with the facilities to host international matches in the country.
The stadium is currently the home ground of Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz.
