Uasin-Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii, alias Koti Moja, has moved to end the row over the closure of more than 60 revolving fund pharmacies operated by the US-funded Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare.

Bii, who presided over the opening of the Burnt Forest Revolving Fund Pharmacy, said the same would be replicated in all the eight county health facilities even as he questioned the criteria used by his predecessor Jackson Mandago’s administration to close down the clinics.

Critics of Mandago’s administration say the closure of the clinics put the lives of more than 11,000 residents who had been accessing medications for chronic diseases such as tuberculosis, mental health, HIV, high blood pressure and diabetes, among others at risk sparking a public outcry. Bii yesterday said that through the revolving fund pharmacies, locals with chronic diseases will now be able to access drugs at a subsidised rates.

“We thank our partners for making it possible for us to re-open the pharmacies within a short period.  We call on them to ensure the community benefits from services rendered through the model,” said Bii.
