Kenya Open Golf Limited yesterday got a timely boost for the forthcoming Kenya Open championship by enlisting Mediamax Network Ltd as their official broadcast partner for three years.

The deal worth Sh27.5 million leaves the Mediamax brands -  K24 television and K24-Plus App - as the official local broadcasters with the former having segments showing the three-day tournament set for March 3-6.

During the cheque presentation event at the Muthaiga Golf Club, Mediamax Network Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ken Ngaruiya said the company is keen to support sports development.

“Our goal is to facilitate growth in the sports industry. We are now keen on giving exposure to golf lovers through our various platforms. Golf remains a sport yet to be appreciated by the masses and it is part of our duty to ensure this changes.

“We also want to encourage young people to take up golf. As Mediamax, we endeavour to empower several content producers and lovers to utilise our platform.

“We, therefore, want to thank KOGL for this partnership and indeed today marks the beginning of a great journey,” said the CEO who was flanked at the function by Mediamax Marketing Director Matthew Karanja.

Zuhura Ogada, a director at the KOGL,  who was at hand to receive the cheque sponsorship, thanked Mediamax for their gesture and support.

“It is important to have partners to amplify the event. Having a local broadcast partner will ensure golf lovers can enjoy the tournament from the comfort of their homes.

It is an excellent opportunity for us to amplify the beauty of our country and courses. We want to position Kenya as the best golf destination in Africa. Since its inception, Kenya Open has grown from the Challenge Tour, European Tour and now the DB World Tour and as such the visitors will need to enjoy our hospitality. It is, therefore, a great move for Mediamax Network to broadcast the tournament for the first time,” said Ogada.

Muthaiga Golf Club Chairman Ronald Meru said the course was ready to host a great tournament.

“As a club, we are more than ready to host the 2022 event and preparations are good so far. Our courses are in tip-top form and we are looking forward to a great event.”

The three-day championships event has attracted at least 14 Kenyan top players and a host of prominent foreigners and it runs from March 3 - 6.
